All Answers To QuestionsAnswer 1
Congratulations on selling 6000 copies of a self-published book! I have written and self-published an adult novel and have sold 0 copies -- I haven't really marketed it. Anyway, I've heard that children's books are very difficult to sell to legitimate publishers (unless the author happens to be a celebrity, in which case the doors are always open!). Have you consulted Writer's Market which has listings of agents and their areas of interest? You need to be certain that a potential agent is ethical. I received a letter (unsolicited) from an agent, sent her a copy of my manuscript which, allegedly, she read, after which she referred me to an editing service. From curiosity, I spoke with the editor there and was quoted ridiculous prices for his services. I decided that the agent and the editor were engaged in a profitable (for them) scam; the agent would not guarantee that she would represent me even after I had used the editing service! Needless to say, I went no further with them and eventually self-published. I think that, unless your book is really unique and remarkable with beautiful illustrations, regardless your having sold so many copies, you will continue to experience rejections in trying to sell it to a mainstream publisher. However, if you truly believe in your book, do not abandon your quest to see it published. Continue to contact agents you can trust; you may be successful if you are relentless in your pursuit of your goal. Good luck! Answer 2
