Correct format for writing a book using MS Word.?

I want to start writing a book, using my laptop and MS Word. How should I format the page? How large should my indents be? Should I be writing in double space or one-and-a-half space? What font size should I be using?

All Answers To Questions

Answer 1

Is your book. you choose. You make it after your wish...

Answer 2

double spaced is alwasy good, and for the font, dont make it to big or to small. 12 or 14 or 16 would work. and also if your writing a book, write it as in chapters and spaces and also your indents should be about just pressing the tab button once or twice. hope it helped.

Answer 3

Have you written anything of this magnitude before? Really, you are putting the cart before the horse when you worry about indenting, formatting, double-spacing and all the rest. Yes, that is important, but only when you are submitting the MS to a publisher (and I have to tell you, most publishers DON'T read unsolicited material and return it, and most get hundreds of thousands of MS's a year, thus the supply is far greater than the demand). Why don't you begin by making a synopsis of your idea, then outline it, then proceed from that point. Writing a book is an enormous undertaking (a real book, I mean, not one of those asinine things the teen set does and then self-publish on some ridiculous web site or other vanity-type publisher - that is NOT real publishing. They run around this site telling everyone they have written a book - or two, or three, or whatever, and really, it's so funny, because they are not real books - often just long ramblng essays - and are usually horrendous!). Don't worry about style and format and all that until you have something concrete.

Answer 4

If you're planning on submitting this to book publishers, this is what you want to do. Double space Minimum margins of 1" top, 1" bottom, 1/2" either side Typeface: either Times New Roman 12 pt or Courier New 11 point. Do not go overboard with the formatting here. Book publishers will format the book as they see fit; that's not your job. Your job is to make it as easy to read as possible, so the manuscript doesn't get tossed because it's just too much work to read.
