It's not illegal to write about illegal things. if they write about what they did themselves, they'll probably get arrested though. That's why people aren't usually doing it... Answer 3
What kind of illegal activities?
For example, you don't see people writing books about how they robbed a bank (and didn't get caught). Or murdered someone.
Are you talking about drug use? You actually can't be arrested for admitting to drug use in the past. Answer 4
Because that's just hearsay. Hearsay cannot be used as evidence in court. Answer 5
Why would I be arrested if I wrote about real life murderers or thieves? Illegal activities, no?
Some types of how-to guide are illegal. Writing about illegal activities isn't. Answer 6
That's a great question. I believe many are people with degrees in journalism and other related fields. Some ARE criminals who've turned evidence and remain free. Still others have been undercover officers... Answer 7
Because there would need to be evidence that what you've said is true. You can tell the world you're a drug deal and cocaine addict, but the police will need to prove this before arresting you. Yes, I've seen news reports where someone will lie and say they committed a crime, and I'm not talking about instances where the police is pressuring them to admit guilt. They lie on their own to get attention or cover up for someone else.
Also, those "non-fiction" books might well be called 'Fiction that's based on a true story.' ;) Answer 8
Because you don't have to do an illegal activity yourself to write about it. My boyfriend was a crime reporter on a daily newspaper for ten years, but I'd like to assume he managed not to murder anyone in the name of research. << GO BACK to questions
