The coverdesign has a little influence on what I read. If the cover is interesting then I may turn it over and see what its about, I may not. The title has a big part on rather I try it or not. And together (good cover & title) Its a big chance that I will read the book :) Answer 2
I actually prefer something fairly basic, sometimes without any picture on the cover at all. I've also learned to avoid books with covers similar to the Twilight series, because I know that those covers try to distract you from the crappy writing contained within. Answer 3
If I don't know the author, I often judge a book by its cover (and the title), I like interesting designs/colors- something that jumps out at you as well as odd titles, "Skinny Legs and All" by Tom Robbins had an interesting name and cover- I have since become a Robbins fan- same with John Updike and John Irving- I got to know them by their often funny, colorful book covers and odd titles. Answer 4
Most catchy things for me are title and color/design. As for title, usually one word, or two words combined, etc. Personally I don't like over bold colors, something subtle that is clear and easy to look at; some small but attractive designs that aren't too messy so I have to focus for a second on the cover to read all the smaller words on it. Answer 5
I like the ones that have a deep emotion: Dark background, a single rose; The outline of a young girl; The title in bold white letters; A white background with a burnt box of matches, do you get my roll here? And The tittle HAS to be meaning full. Answer 6
I know people say "Don't judge a book by it's cover," but I'm far more likely to pick up a book with a pretty cover, than I would one with a dull cover. I think the prettiest book covers I've ever seen were these:
Into the Land of the Unicorns by Bruce Coville: http://images.amazon.com/images/P/0439108381.01.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
and
Fell by David Clement-Davies:

As it turns out I loved both books. The latter was kind of a disappointment, with a weak plot, but was still a good read. The first was fantastic. I think as long as the story is good, a beautiful cover can make quite a difference. At least it does in my book... << GO BACK to questions
