The first thing you need to know about marketing is you can't sell a product if you keep it secret. Your question should have mentioned the name of the book and the name of the author. Is it self published or do you have a publisher? If you have a publisher, it is their job to promote the book. If it is self published, try to set up book signings in book stores, visit college campii and offer to talk with the classes studying journalism, writing and/or literature. Talk to bookstores about carrying your book. Call your local newspaper and radio stations and try to get interviews about the book. Make sure you contact night school and community center programmers, so you can get in touch with people who are taking courses on writing books. There's lots you can do.
