Im Currently writing a book about the history of football?
in and around my small village in Wales.
I have found press cuttings from the 1920's
Should i reference them and include them in whole in my book or shall i use the information and write it in my own words???

write it in your own words.. it makes it more interesting.. because my guess the references are probably boring.. and atleast write it and take credit for using reference and fixing it up yourself Answer 2

Print the press cuttings in their entirety, but first get permission from the newspaper that originally published them.
Local history books are more interesting and useful when original items appears in them, rather than rewritten material.. In this way, researchers after you have a very accurate and dependable source if they want to follow up on their own research, as, for instance, the biography of a particular football player from your village., or the history of village football in the Principality of Wales
Suggestion: You can also rewrite the cuttings (or parts of them) for the main body of your book, and print the cuttings in their entirely in an Appendix. << GO BACK to questions
