Publishing childrens books?
|
A friend of mine is looking for a publisher for a book she has created using photography.
It's an idea for a childrens book, where would you go to find a publisher for it?
Thanks very much.

Same places you would for any other books. Literary agents are the easiest place to begin. Otherwise, tell your friend to get a copy of the Children's Writer's Marketplace. Answer 2
I suggest two different paths.
Your friend can go to a bookstore or library and look for books similar to what your friend has in mind. Look inside and find the name and addresses of those publishers. Write to them and ask for guidlines for submissions. Be sure to include a SASE so that the publisher will be encouraged to send back those guidelines.
Some publishers get dozens, if not hundreds of submissions for book ideas, as well as complete manuscripts. NO ONE has time to read them all. Authors who read the submission guidelines, and adhere to them have a better chance at having thier work seen and considered.
Another route is for your friend to find a copy of a book called, "Writer's Market," or something like that. (the title changes, on occasion, to "Artist and Writer's Market," or something similar)
This book will contain the names and addresses of hundreds of publishers and agencies that are known to work with new writers and, sometimes, accept unsolicited manuscript. The book contains information such as guidelines, formats, the genre and type of work they accept, as well as the actuall names of the contact persons inside the company. This research is critical for new writers and helps them target the most likely and appropriate market for their work.
NOT doing this kind of research means your friend has a poorer chance of ever getting published and can waste a LOT of her time. << GO BACK to questions
