Elements of Style by William Strunk and E.B. is a writer MUST HAVE. Other books: AP Stylebook On Writing Well by William Zinsser On Writing: A Memoir of the Craft by Stephen King Eats, Shites, and Leaves by A. Parody (yes, it's more satire but well worth it) Just the few I currently have in my arsenal.

Well, my personal favorite is "Your First Novel" by Ann Rittenberg and Laura Whitcomb. It covers every aspect of writing, and isn't too dry to read. Characters, Emotion, and Viewpoint by Nancy Kress is also a pretty effective book, and focuses especially on writing fiction. I use them all the time; they're absolutely amazing.
