Ray Bradbury short stories, Frank Herbert's Dune, Issac Asimov's Foundations. You may also like Lovecraft's work, it's phenomenally written and good horror.

You might want to check out the Artemis Fowl series, or other Eoin Cowlfer books. Artemis Fowl is a really good sci-fi/fantasy hybrid, and although I haven't read any of the other books Cowlfer does, I would think they are in the same vein.

I absolutely love the cleverly made and hilarious "Smith" by Mike Devlin. Sci-Fi parody at its best combined with a satire on today's world that made me laugh out loud. Plus: You can interact with some of the characters on twitter (unique as to my knowledge).
