You are the publisher: Pro: You make all your own decisions and have no middle man. It's faster. Con: You need to be able to do all that publishers do: edit, layout and marketing. Marketing is especially hard for non niche books. Many retailers are reluctant to carry self published books of a non regional nature. Although, you don't have a middle man, your printing costs are likely to be much more than a publisher would face., so that may be your profit margin. Although it's changing, there is still a stigma against self published works.
