Why is bad to use older history books (prior to 1950) in your list of sources for writing a book?
Need help explaining why this would contribute to a dull writing style, and half of the sources of this book were prior to 1950. (Samuel Adams Father of the American Revolution)

History is history. History only adds up. I think it is better to use older books because you have less to sort through and it is most likely more accurate Answer 2
Au contraire! In some of the older books, you will sometimes find tidbits of information found no where else. My rule is that you can't quote the numbers outside the specific realm they dwell in, because they have been updated. Answer 3
Um, no, it wouldn't necessarily be more accurate; historians and archaeologists are discovering new things about the past every day.
This would actually be an excellent question to ask in class. It's very interesting and important.
One reason to read older history books is to constrast them with more recent ones; this gives you some insight into the historical period *in* (not *about*) which the books were written. Answer 4
Those history books are not politically correct. Your 'perfessors' won't like them. << GO BACK to questions
