All Answers To QuestionsAnswer 1
"On Moral Fiction" by John Gardner
"The Art of Fiction" by John Gardner
"On Writing" by Stephen King
"Writing Fiction" by the Gotham Writers' Workshop Answer 2
Gardener (from above) is kind of dry - try On Writing by Stephen King.
I Highly recommend this one over anything else. It is a excellent tutorial and also semi-biographical. King has a great sense of humor and is one of the best selling authors of all time. Answer 3
The Modern Library Writer's Workshop: A Guide to the Craft of Writing by Stephen Koch.
I have this book and it's very informative. It's been called an MFA in a book.
I also have On Writing by Stephen King and The Art of Fiction by John Gardner.
I have Zen in the Art of Writing by Ray Bradbury and I love that one too.
John Truby's book The Anatomy of Story is for screenwriters but I've learned a lot from it.
I also found Christopher Vogler's book, The Writer's Journey excellent and although it appears to be a rewrite of Joseph Campbell's The Hero of a Thousand Faces (which I also have) Vogler's book is geared to writers where as Campbell's book is a bit more scholarly. << GO BACK to questions
