for those of you writing a book or considering writing a book. How would you format it? Would you put it bit

by bit say chapter by chapter and then let some one edit it an critique it or do you do the whole book at once and then let someone edit and critique it. What is your book writing style? how do you choose who to critique your book?

Answer 1

I generally organize chapter by chapter, and let it critique chapter by chapter after the entire thing is done. The main reason is often I change entire chapters, names or places change, or I do away with parts of the story.

Answer 2

I think it depends on what kind of story line you have in mind. Every writer I think, tries different formats sometime in their career's. I think the writer writes out a chapter outine as the story line develops. I would definitely write the book first, the whole book and then consider an outside person to edit what you have typed or written. I am not sure since I am not a publish writer, but, I know writers do write out an outline or outlines for their books. I think you develop your writing style as you progress into writing several books. A writer does consider what kind of literature they would like to write such as non-fiction for example or a biography. There are several types of styles a writer may want to try. Mine? I am sort of cofessional poet slash non-fiction writer. To be honest, I don't think I have a style yet.

Answer 3

Well, first I make an outline of the whole book - it's short, not very detailed, covers the main points and includes the beginning, middle and end. Then I plan the first few chapters, write it out, plan the next few chapters and then write them out. I would probably write the whole book and then let someone edit it...but now that you've asked this question, I wonder if chapter by chapter would be easier for me and someone else to edit? I usually type of my novel on a whole word document...perhaps I should consider making separate documents for each chapter... Hope this helps! MollyWobbleSrz

Answer 4

You can format any way you want. Cormac Mc Carthy's The Road which won this year's Pulitzer is done in one long chapter. I write in chapters, but I was taught by a very well known best selling author to vary the lengths of my chapters. Some are quite long, some very short. Other authors like James Patterson write chapters that are about a page and a half long in print. It is up to you. As for editing, some people like their editor to work along with them and others prefer to be edited at the end of the writing process. Again, that is a personal choice. I have done it both ways. ---- They're, Their, There - Three Different Words. Careful or you may wind up in my next novel. Pax - C
