My book is non-fiction and now that I've finished it I'm wondering in which format to send it to them - should I send a proposal or a synopsis? How long should it be? Advice gratefully received :)

Wrote a 50 chapter, non-fiction. 70,000 word original on true crime. Most publishers won't look at the material without being submitted by a literary agent. Don't want to self-publish. Any publisher recommendations?

I am writing a book about teenagers and young adults (primarily males) who commit terrible crimes: school shooters, serial killers, and mass murderers are some examples. I am writing the book from the perspective of the psychological and sociological backgrounds of the perpetrators; this will not be a book detailing the crime itself; the thrust of the book is to understand why these men commit these crimes so that one can intervene and prevent others from doing so. What publishers specialize in such books?

So i have finally finished my book I had it edited and everything so please now i need to know i can find a publisher. So it isnt a novel though its possible to be a novelle. There are so many websites and places on the internet, it is hard to know what are legitimate and what are not. I read a lot and I was looking at Book Pages and I realized that many of the reviews were of books that I have no intention of reading. Many authors get famous because their books catch the public's fancy, not because the publishers or literary agents like them. Who agrees with me? I see the young girls and young women go to the bookmobile and empty the shelves of fiction. So somebody reads fiction. The publishers say fiction is ot selling. I don't think they know what's up. Many authors are self publishing now.

ive writen a book about the life of a pipeliner... i worked on a pipeline this summer and the experiences and the people shocked me. i had to write about it. before i waste money and time getting the book bound and sent to publishers, i want to know if anyone would even pick it up if they saw it in a store.
