and non-fiction books?

Actually I have several questions on how to write a non-fiction. I have my idea and know my subject, but it's the schematics of things that loses me. Is there software that makes book writing easier (organizing thoughts, resources, contributors etc)? Any books on writing non-fiction that I could read (title AND author if you can)? Any other resources or tips? Thanks in advance, Tara

I see some boring non fiction books such as "Gravity" or "Elephants". Thing is, I want to do the same! I want to write non fiction books as a hobby (I am 16 and I have other big plans...) and books like that seem like a good starting point. But what I actually want is to write an odd non fiction book, one tat will get attention. I want one that creates controversy! But how do I do that with a non fiction book? DO I have to attack people's beliefs? My writing skills are obviously not that good, having only high school knowledge. Basically, how do I write a non fiction book?

Well I'm only 16 but I'm planning to write this book about the greatest rock and roll albums of all time and i wanna get it published. I have nooo idea where to start. Do I just write? Or do I need to contact someone first? And should I buy any books about the process? Help would be great...Thanks!!!!! =)

It's about the stock market and fact-heavy. There's also a mini glossary. I've used the internet and books as sources, but most of the knowledge and the wording is my own- just the stats and figures come from others. Should I be aware of any copyright laws? For citing, do I simply keep track of all my sources?

I'm looking for non-fiction books written in the 19th Century about police/police departments and how they deal with crime (not really just for crime stories)... I'd like to write a book about something or how to do something, but I'd have to do some research first. How do I give credit to the websites or books I learn from, and how do I know what's true or not? Do I just make a bibliography or do I have to do more (or less) than that? I was wondering.. most of the information in my book is from years of experience, doing shows, taking classes, etc. Some of the information was supplied by other books or websites, but I wrote out my own interpretations from these sources. There are no direct quotes from any of these sources. Do I provide a "works cited" or "bibliography" at the end of my book? Do I need to get permission from these sources before I list them as a source? Any help or links is highly appreciated!

I have a great (imo) idea for writing a non ficiton book. There are not any current books on my subject. My question is, do I do all the research, travel, interviewing on my own dime and hope to get published? I would be a 1st time author.
