If you write according to what people need you will always have an audience. People
always want to know something about something, or how to do something better. If you
can fill the need and then expand on this you will eventually develop the audience that
you want.
I have one book that is very popular with people interested in health and nutrition
and over the years I have seen that it does best with a very specific group of people so
instead of sending the book all over the place like I used to. I target one specific group
and constantly make revisions on the book which they follow. The marketing path for this
book is television and it has been picked up by one network with over 80 million viewers.
Develop a website, blog, or both that creates a niche for you. I currently have four
that serve the purposes that I have now, but in a recent teleconference that I attended one
of my favorite marketing representatives stated how he had 50 URLs and 30 websites.
That challenged me to continue even though what I have is working. This just opened my
eyes to how limitless internet associations can be. I spent 1 hour on the phone and that
nugget helped me to expand my vision. It also helped me to understand another way he
has sold millions of books.
Begin to develop associations with people that will help you to accomplish your
goal. This does not have to be a large group, but it does have to be a powerful "inner
circle" group of people. For example if I need marketing help with something I don't feel
equipped to handle, I have four associates that own successful marketing companies.
They are extremely helpful and have been an asset to me for a long time. If I am doing a
production and have needs for whatever, I have about 10 groups that I can depend on. So
the numbers may be small but there is a lot of power in the numbers. A small group of
solid members is much better than a large group that is only randomly available.
Start writing articles that are targeted and have purpose. I love the example of
someone I researched recently. He only had written four articles on a large article
distribution site, but with those four articles he had amassed thousands upon thousands of
readers. His works will probably be on line forever and he is constantly directing people
to his site as a result of four well written articles. A small amount of well written articles
will run circles around a large amount of untargeted and poorly written ones.
Even though I am constantly sharing with people. I make it a point to keep learning.
I am very well read. I like to read traditional sources as well as on line. I am constantly
attending workshops, teleconferences, meet and greet functions and testing new concepts.
I am constantly developing solid relationships with people in my field. One of my clients
likes our work so much they recently sent my husband and I on an all expense paid 5 day
cruise and only asked us to work for 7 hours on the trip. That was a God sent much
needed vacation, but came as a result of developing a relationship.
There is so much that you can do to get publicity for your book. The main thing is
to be proactive. Find what works for you and work it. Last give time a chance to develop
you, your skills and generate the right path for your work.
Hope I've given you a few good things to think about.
