What in the heck is an eBook? That's the question I most often hear when I tell people what I do. It doesn't matter how old they are, what their business background is, or how much time they spend online each day. Most people are still confused when you use the term eBook. So how can you remedy that easily? Refer to your content as a digital book or an electronic book. Everyone can then understand what you are talking about. Trying to educate your audience will wear you out. Instead, talk to them using terms they already understand and can easily relate to.
Now think about what your goal is in writing this information. Will this be used to generate leads or as a source of income? Either way, your content must be the best possible, but by knowing ahead of time what you will be using it for, you will be able to plan how you will market it online. Maybe this will be a free giveaway in order to get people to exchange their name and email address in return for your information. This will help you to build your list steadily over time.
The next thing is to decide what to write about in your eBook. Your information must be excellent, so that it will be considered to be valuable by anyone who receives it. Think of it as your calling card to those who do not yet know you. You absolutely must do your research and spend the time to do the best possible writing you can do. It does not matter if you will be selling or giving away this information. Either way, strive for excellence on your topic. If what you put together can already be downloaded online, what makes your take on it unique? Give yourself the gift of time to do your best writing.
Make sure your topic is one that is in demand. I see many people trying to market eBooks that are past their time of interest. The internet changes very quickly, so keep up with these changes. There is nothing worse than burying your head in the sand for two or three months with your writing, only to find out that your topic is no longer of interest or that you must now begin your research again because so much has changed.
Using sites such as Twitter and Facebook will give you access to millions of people from around the world who can assist you in this area. Ask questions about your topic and keep the conversation going. Just one tip from someone who is also knowledgeable in your niche can keep you from going down a path that will be a waste of your valuable time.
Finally, we come to the marketing of your eBook. I am talking about that at the end of this article, but it is actually something you must consider and begin taking action with before you have completed your writing. Start a blog on your niche topic, if you haven't done so already. Start a group over at Facebook. Write about your topic on Twitter. Hold teleseminars to discuss what you are writing about.
You must create buzz to get people excited about what you are doing. You have something to say, or you wouldn't be writing about it. Make sure as many people as possible are anxiously awaiting your next words so they will be even more excited when you are ready to give away or sell your writing. And then, just as soon as you are finished, begin writing your next digital book so that you will be constantly moving forward with your online business. Writing and selling eBooks can be a lucrative process, if you have done your homework and follow through with your plan.
