CHICAGO AUTHOR ANSWERS TOUGH QUESTIONS ABOUT CONTROVERSIAL SPORTS DRAMA

By Autumn Girl Press

Chicago author, Jessie Jamie Coleman, answers tough questions about her new controversial sports drama, “The Boston Blue.”

Q: Tell us about “The Boston Blue.”

A: The “The Boston Blue” is a sports drama/love story which takes place during the back drop of the NBA championship. For the first time in history, the WNBA and NBA go head to head for the championship ring.

Q: That’s quite an ambitious concept, what’s your inspiration behind it?

A: It was the year 1999, during the Lakers’ reign and the second retirement of Michael Jordan. My inspiration stirred from the lack of attention the WNBA received compared to the NBA and I didn’t like it. From there, “The Boston Blue” was born. It’s a glimpse into the future that I want to be a part of, the story I want to see.

Q: What do you have to say to people who don’t believe that your tale is realistic and that women will never be good enough to really take on the NBA?

A: I would say it’s more realistic that a woman will one day compete on the same court as a man than it is that a city bus traveling through the streets of Los Angeles during rush hour at a speed of 50 miles an hour without ever hitting the breaks.

Q: I understand that you are not much of a sports fanatic, but yet you have written this sports drama about the basketball game of the century. How did that happen?

A: I am asked this question a lot. I penned “The Boston Blue” out of my admiration and love for women. I am very pro women, and I am interested in anything that propels women to the top. The fact that men and women do not play on the same court inspired my creative juices and “The Boston Blue” is the result.

Q: Why have you chosen to write “The Boston Blue” as a screenplay as opposed to a novel?

A: Though I have written novels before, my preference is screenplays. They are easy to write, fun to write and make for a very fast read. One of the keys components that sets the screenplay apart from the novel is that screenplays are mostly action and dialogue with very little description. Everyone says the same thing: They read so fast.

Q: What are your thoughts about the rumors and/or fact that the WNBA is comprised of many lesbians. Some critics have even gone as far as to peg the WNBA as the lesbian league.

A: I think that’s a compliment to the association. I am pro women in every sense of the word, so I am for women period, straight women, gay women, what have you.

Q; Are you concerned that the media and the public might label you as a lesbian because of your intense advocacy for the WNBA and women’s sports?

A: I think that would be great and I would receive it as a huge compliment.

Q: What do you think could be done to bring more money into the WNBA?

A: First, I would say, appoint me as spokesperson for the WNBA. Then, I would venture to say, begin a kick-ass marketing campaign, heavily advertising the players and their games, more television interviews, promoting their events with promotional merchandise and even seeking out celebrity sponsorship and endorsements.

Q: Why do you think you would be such a great spokesperson for the WNBA?

A: I would be a dynamic spokesperson for the WNBA because I am pro women and I speak with so much conviction, belief and passion that others are compelled to take notice and listen.

Q: Where can people learn more about you and your book?

A: “The Boston Blue” is available at Barnes & Noble stores and my website is: www.jessiejamiecoleman.com.
